On the morning of April 11, 2026, a delegation led by Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, visited the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) at Peking University. The delegation was received by Prof. Chen Ming, Dean of the School. Other members of the delegation included Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh, Dean of Faculty of Linguistics and Vietnamese Studies, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu, Dean of Faculty of Political Science. Representing SFL at the meeting were Tenured Assoc. Prof. Shi Yue, Head of the Country and Area Studies Program; Lecturer Xie Ang, Director of the Vietnamese Teaching and Research Unit; Assoc. Prof. Xia Lu; Assoc. Prof. Xian Manxue; and graduate student representatives.
Dean Chen Ming welcomed Rector Hoang Anh Tuan and his delegation. He provided a brief overview of the history and current status of SFL, outlining its academic programs, talent cultivation, and disciplinary development. He emphasized that the School will continue to advance its efforts in four key areas: talent cultivation, faculty development, scientific research, and international cooperation. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan spoke highly of the achievements made by SFL and expressed his vision for deepening bilateral cooperation in talent cultivation, research innovation, as well as faculty and student exchanges. He placed particular emphasis on the importance of integrating language education and research in the humanities and social sciences with cutting-edge technologies in the context of the AI era.

During the discussion session, the Vietnamese side put forward proposals for cooperation in several key areas, including the development of Vietnamese language teaching materials, the organization of academic conferences, the integration and research of linguistic resources, the deepening of country and area studies, and joint master’s and doctoral training. The Chinese side responded positively, proposing to carry out targeted research on themes such as the Language Archive Initiative, linguistics and AI technology. It also suggested leveraging the School’s strengths in studies of literature, culture, and religion, and establishing a mechanism for regular academic exchanges.
Both sides ultimately reached a consensus that future cooperation will focus on the key areas such as “documentary materials” and “AI technology”, building on tradition while looking to the future. They agreed to seek further opportunities for exchange, expand the scope of collaboration, and explore new pathways for practical cooperation in the new era.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides exchanged commemorative gifts and took a group photo. The exchange highlighted promising prospects for collaboration between the two institutions in the fields of linguistics, area and country studies, and AI-enhanced language education, injecting new momentum into higher education cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Vietnam.
